All vehicle rentals in Halifax are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, applicable charges, and your obligations during the rental period. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Rental Vehicle Requirements
- To rent a vehicle in Halifax, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with extra fees for drivers under 25. You need a valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle category, held for the minimum duration outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additionally, present valid identification and proof of your current address. Valid payment information and a security deposit are required as well. Be aware of any further stipulations noted in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be arranged via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Halifax office. A booking deposit may be necessary to confirm your reservation. Full payment and a security deposit are usually required upon vehicle collection. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection in Halifax, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed by both parties to document the state of the vehicle. Please return the vehicle in the same condition it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage identified upon return will be evaluated and charged accordingly. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as at collection; refueling fees will be applied if it is returned with less fuel. Insurance and Liability Terms

You remain accountable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless you opt for extra coverage. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility regardless of the insurance in place.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice provided. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or the Rental Agreement. Charges may apply for late cancellations or no-shows.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities, including racing, off-roading, or other risky behaviors. Transporting hazardous materials is strictly prohibited. Sub-letting or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is forbidden. Ensure that the vehicle is used within its intended purpose, adheres to passenger and weight limits, and remains within the designated geographical boundaries unless approved otherwise.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed by applicable law in Halifax, Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims is limited to the amount paid for the rental in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or for fraudulent actions.
9. Applicable Law in Halifax
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England and Wales.
